Phew

Posted on Sep 17th, 2007 by Bradley : Founder, OrganicAthlete Bradley
I'm tired, but it feels good.  In the past 4 weeks, I opened a bike shop and organized 2 Tour d'Organics ride.  I think I've earned a break.

Last week, I was ready to pack in this OrganicAthlete gig.  There's so much work to be done, and after the stress of the past 6 weeks, I was at my breaking point.  I broke this morning.  I cried tears of joy when I got a package from Verge, our clothing supplier, with Sami's national champion's skinsuit.  That really means a lot to me to see OA represented in that way.  It's special.

As I unbury myself and get back to a regular schedule, there will be more updates here, here, and here.

A Good Ride

Posted on Aug 11th, 2007 by Bradley : Founder, OrganicAthlete Bradley
Today we rolled out the first ride from the West County Revolution.  A real who's who of Sonoma County cycling met at 9:30 in front of the freshly painted store.  Dan Hopley, Gavin Chilcott, Don Winkle, Brian Anderson, Steve Michel, and I  started what I promised would test everyone's cave of pain.

Hopley, Gavin, Don, and Brian

Long story short because I'm tired - Steve broke a spoke and turned back at the base of the steep section on Sweetwater.  Hopley made my cave of pain look like a small crack at the top of Sweetwater.  Gavin flatted multiple times and turned back in Monte Rio.  Everyone loves Willow Creek.  Brian and Hopley flatted at the same time on Willow Creek.  Hopley crushed me again on Willow Creek.  He gets the KOM prize for the day.  We head back on Occidental Road, and Don and Brian turn towards Santa Rosa at Mill Station Rd.  Hopley and I ride by the shop, just to say the ride started and finished there.  We go home.  I eat a watermelon.  Steve comes over.  We talk shop for a few hours.  I'm still entering inventory.

Fast Twitchless

Posted on Aug 7th, 2007 by Bradley : Founder, OrganicAthlete Bradley
I'm convinced that I have no fast twitch muscle fibers.  I've been getting hammered at the Tuesday Night Crits all year, and tonight was no exception.  I take that back, it was exceptionally hard.  Two BMC riders, Devon Vigus from Cal Giant, Glen Mitchell, as well as the usual suspects of local talent lined up tonight for 40 minutes of throw down.  Eric Wright and I "represented" the OA colors.

I say represented because we really just had our asses handed to us like this:  I attacked on the first lap.  I stay away for a couple of laps.  Scott Nydam (BMC) passes me like I'm standing still.  I never see him again for the rest of the race.  Various groups form and split and form again.  Eric gets in THE MOVE.  It's about 8-9 riders with both BMC riders, Devon, a AMD rider, and a few others.  Then in what seemed like less than 30 seconds, I try to follow Glen Mitchell across to the move...I see Eric getting lapped (I though he was in THE MOVE)...I'm within 2 bike lengths of the break...the break is out of sight and I'm back in the field.  And my legs really, really hurt after that.

I don't know how many people survived in the break.  All I know is that I tried to sprint Glen Mitchell in the field sprint.  I was on his wheel coming into the last corner, and then I wasn't.  I don't understand these sprinter types.  It takes me a long time to get up to that speed.

Broken Frame

You can't tell from the picture, but the bottom bracket shell came loose.  It's funny that the carbon and not the bamboo broke.  It's on the way back to Calfee now to get fixed.  Justin lent me a frame for the meantime.

Inside the Terrordome

Terrordome

I'd like to thank Jack for the gift of this book.  I read Dave's What's My Name Fool? last year, and I enjoyed it.  Obviously, in starting an organization like OrganicAthlete, I think it's important that we think about the interaction of culture and sports.
